COUNCIL ON OCCUPATIONAL EDUCATION (COE) CONSULTING

The Commission for Independent Education has legal accountabilities in matters pertaining to nonpublic, postsecondary, educational institutions. In observance with the Florida Department of Education’s goal of creating a unified educational system, some of these roles include consumer protection, program improvement, institutional policies and administration, data management, and the licensure of independent schools, colleges and universities.

In order to maintain accreditation by COE, an institute must:

  • Keep the Council up to date on all program names, length, and active status
  • Inform the Council of any major changes regarding the institution
  • Submit institutional annual reports
  • Submit financial reports
  • Keep a complete accreditation file
  • Schedule advisory committee meetings
  • Reaffirm accreditation 2-6 years after initial accreditation
  • Be prepared for an unannounced focus review by the Council
